Storm Sirens To Sound In 40 MPH Winds In Linn County

Linn County Emergency Management is making changes to its storm siren protocols. Now sirens will sound if winds get above 40 miles per hour due to recent storm damage and debris.

Forecasters say that thunderstorms with gusty winds are possible on Thursday and again on Friday in the Cedar Rapids area.

KCRG-TV 9 says the agencies decision was based on the amount of loose debris still on the ground and hanging debris still in the trees that has the potential to cause damage or injury when blown around.

Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors and should not be relied on while inside your home. Emergency management says make sure you always have several reliable ways to receive severe weather information.
