Teaming Up To Promote Literacy

Marion, IA (May 5th, 2020) –The Friends of the Marion Public Library and the Marion Independent School Foundation & Alumni Association have teamed up to promote literacy this Giving Tuesday Now on May 5th, 2020.

Giving Tuesday Now is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

“The pandemic has certainly revealed a need for books in the home. With no access library services or a regular school schedule, it is important now more than ever to foster literacy. We want kids to continue to progress with their skills, and not remain stagnant or fall behind,” commented Elisabeth Kissling, Alumni Relations Director for the Marion Independent School Foundation & Alumni Association.

The ways to give include donating to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, hosted by the Friends of the Marion Public Library. This initiative helps to get books in the hands of Marion families with kids ages 0-5. And a unique thing about the program is that books are mailed to kids at their homes, which is a great gift during this health crisis. Visit https://givebox.com/dpil to donate.

Another way to give is to purchase a book for a Marion Independent School child from Amazon. A wish list can be found at https://a.co/8RmqZhk. Books will be collected in the month of May and given out on May 28th during Grab and Go: lunch at Vernon Middle School.
