ICPD Searching for Man who Exposed Himself

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Iowa City police are looking for help finding a man they say exposed himself to kids in Iowa City while performing a lewd act.

Police received reports saying a man exposed himself to elementary-aged kids while masturbating in a car near 7th Avenue and Sheridan Street.

According to police, the children ran away and were not harmed.

Police say the white male was in a red or rusty car.

Investigators are asking witnesses to come forward. They are also looking for an surveillance footage from the area.

Just more than two weeks ago, Iowa City police received two separate reports of someone watching women in residential areas and committing lewd acts.

The first report happened at approximately 4:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Ronalds Street on August 21. A woman reported she saw a man standing outside of a red pick-up truck parked in the back alley. According to police, the man watched her while she was outside of her residence. She then saw the man commit a lewd act.

Later that same day, at approximately 9:45 p.m., police received a second report of a man with a similar description acting suspiciously in the alley in the 1000 block of E. College Street. A woman claims the man watched people and reported that he possibly performed a lewd act. Police checked the area, but couldn't find the man.

Police said the women described the suspect as an African American.The man on Ronalds Street was reported to have been wearing a gray shirt and sunglasses. The man on College Street was reported as tall and thin and was shirtless.

Police have not provided updates on the case.
