Independence Man Sentenced for Multiple Burglaries

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A judge has sentenced an Independence man to 25 years in prison he pleaded guilty to theft and burglary charges.

According to a plea agreement, 48-year-old Jamie Reuther must serve at least three years of the sentence and make restitution to all victims.

On February 16, Independence Police said they stopped Reuther for routine traffic violations and found he was in possession of a trailer stolen from Cedar Falls. On March 2, officers stopped Reuther again for routine traffic violations and found him in possession of a trailer stolen from Independence.

Police on March 7 searched two storage sheds Reuther had rented as well as his residence. Officers said they found multiple items stolen from multiple victims on various occasions.

On March 27, 28, and 29, law enforcement officers executed several additional search warrants on properties Reuther owned or rented, and found additional stolen property.

On May 23, Reuther pleaded guilty to six counts of second degree theft and one count of third degree burglary.
