Body Pulled from Water in Downtown Iowa City

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said authorities pulled a man's body from the Iowa River in downtown Iowa City Tuesday.

Authorities said the body was stuck in tree branches near the Burlington Street Bridge, near the east bank of the river. They said pedestrians on the bridge spotted the body and called authorities about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputies in boats freed the body and pulled it from the water about 30 minutes later.Authorities have not yet identified the man and said it is not clear how long the body was in the river.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate the incident.
