CR Adopts "College District" Name

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Uptown District board of directors has voted to adopt the name of ‘College District’ for the organization, recognizing their work on the City of Cedar Rapids’ College District Area Action Plan initiative.

“The board of directors believe that aligning the name to the action plan will reduce confusion and provide an entity that can support the plan moving forward," President of The College District Board Phil Wasta said.

The ‘First Avenue Uptown College District’ organization was founded in 2007 and focused on safety and security issues along First Avenue from 10th Street to 20th Street.

In 2012, the district name was changed to ‘Uptown District’ to acknowledge a wider reach into the Coe College and Mount Mercy University campuses as well as the Mound View Neighborhood.

Changes to the College District board have resulted in the election of new members.

Scott Crosby, who has served as president of the organization since it began, is stepping down as his business moves out of the district.

Rod Pritchard, secretary since 2007 is also stepping down.

The board has elected the following officers:
Phil Wasta, President
Karla Sibert, Vice President
Jeff Frese, Secretary
Kevin Platz, Treasurer
Larry Lee, Board Member
Isaiah Pirtle, Board Member
John Weaver, Board Member
Lt. Cory McGarvey, CRPD Liaison
