Former Cedar Rapids mayor Ron Corbett's appeal to get on the primary ballot could cause delays for early voting. This week a review board found Corbett's campaign was eight signatures short of making in on the Republican Governor primary ballot in June. Now Corbett has filed an appeal in Polk County District Court.
But the deadline for counties to get out early voting ballots is fast approaching April 21st. Linn County auditor Joel Miller says he has to know the final ballot by next week to make them to the printers in time. Miller says Polk County is the only county that has its own printers, everyone else has to use outside vendors.
"Otherwise everyone is going to a limited number of printers in the state of Iowa to get the ballots printed. And we're all going to be doing that at the same time and now we're all going to potentially be held up," said Joel Miller.
Miller says after they get the ballots back from the printers they have to check them and test them with the voting machines.
"This has the potential to take a chunk of that time out and yet there's no delays. The election is going to still happen on June 5th regardless of what anyone else is doing up to that point," said Miller.
Corbett says he hopes to get the result from the judge by next week.
