Hawkeyes Endure Rain, Lightning

AUSTIN, Texas – Over three hours of weather delays kept the University of Iowa track and field team’s multi-event athletes from taking center stage but the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays still went on as planned on Wednesday afternoon inside Mike A. Myers Stadium.

 

Iowa had three athletes – sophomore Jenny Kimbro, junior Tria Simmons, and senior Will Dougherty – compete in multi-event competitions at the Texas Relays. Kimbro and Simmons were in the heptathlon while Dougherty was in the decathlon.

 

After the first day, Simmons is in seventh place with 3,216 points and Kimbro is in ninth place with 3,175 points, and Dougherty sits in eighth place in the decathlon with 3,838 points.

 

HEPTATHLON

Kimbro and Simmons competed in four of the seven events in the heptathlon on Wednesday.

 

100 Meter Hurdles

Kimbro – 2nd place, 13.74, personal best

Simmons – 10th place, 14.21

 

High Jump

Simmons – 7th place, 1.69m

Kimbro – 14th place, 1.63m, personal best

 

Shot Put

Kimbro -- 16th place, 10.16m

Simmons -- 18th place, 10.01m

 

200 Meters

Simmons – 6th place, 24.91, personal best

Kimbro – 11th place, 25.42

 

DECATHLON

Dougherty completed half of the decathlon on Wednesday with five more events set for Thursday.

 

100 Meters

Dougherty – 11th place, 11.04, T-personal best

 

Long Jump

Dougherty – 11th place, 6.92m (22-8.25)

 

Shot Put

Dougherty – 12th place, 12.73m (41-9.25)

 

High Jump

Dougherty – 5th place, 1.98m (6-6)

 

400 Meters

Dougherty – 13th place, 51.35

The Hawkeyes conclude the multi-events at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. (CT) while another group of Hawkeyes begin competition in Gainesville, Florida, at the Florida Relays at 1 p.m. (CT)
