Fighting Illini Edge the Hawkeyes

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team dropped a 195.325-195.150 decision to Illinois on Friday night at Huff Hall.

 

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

Three GymHawks earned event titles to highlight the competition. Six gymnasts registered nine season bests and three earned career highs.

ALL-AROUND

Sophomore Charlotte Sullivan finished second in the all-around with a career-high 39.325. This marks her third consecutive week finishing in the top-two in the all-around. Junior Nicole Chowplaced fourth with a score of 38.475.

 

BARS

Iowa began the night on uneven bars with a 48.325. Sullivan led Iowa, tying her season best with a 9.875 and finishing third. Freshman Emma Hartlzer followed in fourth with a career-high 9.825.

 

VAULT

The Hawkeyes moved to vault and recorded a score of 48.550. Senior Nikki Youd led Iowa with a 9.775, while Sullivan earned a 9.750.

 

FLOOR

The GymHawks registered a 49.075 on floor in the third event. Senior Melissa Zurawski tied for the title with a season-high 9.875. Chow followed in third, tying a career high with a 9.850, while sophomore Breanna Fitzke and Sullivan recorded scores of 9.800. This marks a career high for Fitzke.

 

BEAM

Iowa finished the competition on beam with a season-high 49.200. Sullivan and Youd tied for the win with scores of 9.875. This marks a season high for both gymnasts. Chow placed third with a 9.850, and junior Sydney Hogan followed in fifth with a 9.825.

 

UP NEXT

The Hawkeyes host No. 9 Nebraska on Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. (CT) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The meet’s theme is Princess/Superhero Day. Doors open at 3 p.m. and parking is free.
