New Iowa Voter ID Cards in Mail

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says his office has started mailing Voter ID cards this week to voters who don't have a valid Iowa driver's license or nondriver's ID.

The free cards are being sent automatically to 123,000 Iowans.

The process is to ensure all registered voters in the state have an identification card when they vote in the 2018 elections.

“It should be easy to vote, but hard to cheat, and that’s what this new law ensures,” Pate said.

Pate encourages voters to be on the lookout for their Voter ID cards and to sign the card when it comes in the mail.

The six percent of Iowans who will receive the cards will not be people with a valid driver's license.
